The Magic of Mexico at Maroma, A Belmond Hotel

I am fortunate and continually humbled to serve on the LGBTQ+ Commercial Committee Advisory Board for the past four years. Belmond has been a leader in making changes to create an inclusive brand across all of their properties and experiences for our community.

This year, our annual board meeting was held at the newly remodeled Maroma, a Belmond Hotel in Riviera Maya. Although my days were filled with the sharing of ideas in the board meetings, the idea of three nights in this ultra-luxury paradise with its beautiful beaches was a dream come true.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with warm smiles and Maroma’s signature margarita. The attention to detail and the impeccable service were evident right from the start. My Junior Suite room was designed with all of the local culture in mind. From the stunning hand-painted tiles to the individually engraved accents and luxurious bedding, I could feel the purposeful added touches accomplished by the latest renovations.

I woke up to the sound of waves crashing on the shore and did some work before my meetings with the most beautiful view. The morning began with a delightful surprise - a tray of specialty Mexican coffee delivered to my room. Each morning, I was able to taste a different variety of coffee from various regions in Mexico.

After a day of meetings, we had dinner at the Woodend Restaurant. Our meal was curated by the renowned chef Curtis Stone and was a culinary masterpiece. The menu that was designed especially for us was a journey through the flavors of Mexico. The ambiance of the restaurant, with its open kitchen and views of the ocean, added to the magic of the evening.

The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the local seafood ceviche, bursting with freshness and a hint of spice. And let's not forget the churros for dessert, served with a rich, velvety chocolate sauce that was pure indulgence.

One of the most memorable experiences of my stay was a visit to the Melipona Bee Farm. Learning about the fascinating world of bees was educational. It was a unique opportunity to connect with the local culture and appreciate the importance of these tiny, buzzing creatures in the ecosystem. The soon-to-be-added addition of the Bees to Maroma will bring even more local flavor to the hotel’s offerings in both culinary and the spa.

As the sun began to set, I made my way to Freddy's Bar. With a Maroma specialty margarita in hand and a plate of fresh guacamole before me, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting. The bar, perched on a terrace overlooking the ocean and the pristine white beach, offered breathtaking views of the Riviera Maya’s natural beauty.

I cannot wait to begin booking my clients searching for the ultimate in luxury in the Cancun area at Maroma.
