My Myconian Life For A Day
As many of you know, Mykonos is one of my favorite islands in the world. I spent both my honeymoon and 50th birthday celebrations there. Although it is always my preference to spend an extended amount of time in this one perfect place, I was fortunate enough this summer to at least spend one day and night of bliss indulging in all things Mykonos.
When my clients are wanting to book Mykonos as their vacation destination, one of the first things that I ask them is if they want to stay cliff side or walking distance from the town. Both are completely different experiences. All of my stays in Mykonos have been in town with taking day trips to various beaches and beach clubs for daytime adventures.
With only one day and one night this trip, I had to figure out how I was going to experience a taste of each delight that Mykonos has to offer. We started our adventure spending the day at the gorgeous Myconian Ambassador Hotel. We toured the stunning property that is modern, glamorous, and sleek. It is truly everything you could want in a beach resort that is a short ride from the town. The hotel treated us to a delicious five-course lunch featuring local flavors at their restaurant overlooking the pool and the blue sea. The restaurant manager was our own personal menu and brought us each course which not only tasted like perfection but was almost too pretty to eat. And as always, the Greek Rose Wine was a perfect addition to the meal.
Following lunch, we swam and lounged by the pool enjoying the entire afternoon at the resort. The service was spot on and provided us with everything that we needed in a kind and timely manner.
For sunset, we set off to meet friends at another Mykonian Resort called the Myconian Naia. This hotel is in the same family of properties, but had an entirely different feel. (It is also a Preferred Hotels & Resorts property!) The outdoor space was retro yet contemporary highlighting the floor to ceiling glass protecting you from the winds yet allowing you full view of the sunset. The rooms were beautifully appointed and featured stunning views of the water. The ultimate moment was the sunset was paired to gorgeous opera music that ended perfectly with a crescendo just when the sun disappeared into the sea.
After our two fabulous beachside adventures, we headed to the lively town of Mykonos. Instead of sitting for a long seated dinner (as there are so many amazing choices for this), my wife was dying for her favorite gyro in all of Greece at Jimmy’s Souvlaki. And as always, it did not disappoint! Nothing like a delicious chicken gyro stuffed with fries and a Mythos beer to satisfy your Greek cravings. And of course, a photo and a quick chat with Jimmy who has had the joint for many years has always been an important part of the experience.
We followed our dinner with some shopping for our kids then a last cocktail at The Veranda overlooking the windmills and not wanting to leave. But all good things must come to an end.
Till next time Mykonos. Don’t ever change as you are perfect exactly as you are!
