Weekend Getaway to Beautiful Cancun
My wife and I were looking for a quick getaway from New York City to celebrate our anniversary. It needed to be an easy direct flight, a location not to far from the destination airport, and a property that would provide some much needed quiet and serenity along with fun.
I contacted the stunning Ritz Carlton in Cancun to see if they could accommodate us for the weekend. Cancun is a direct flight from JFK and the Ritz Carlton is only a 15 minute drive from the airport. And who can pass up the luxury of such a stunning property for their anniversary. Decision made!
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by friendly staff who escorted us immediately to The Club level for check in. I have blogged many times about the advantages of The Club experience at the Ritz Carlton. And once again they did not disappoint. The team took me on an extensive tour of the property. There are multiple dining options but two of them stood out as a “must do” while staying there. The first was a test kitchen that not only features authentic Mexican cooking classes but also hosts a chef’s table for dinners. The space was open, contemporary and would be a perfect location for a one of a kind evening. I was fortunate enough to experience the second dining experience first hand for my anniversary dinner. The Ritz Carlton transitions their beach cabanas by day to an individual dining casita by night. Each casita is individually decorated for the perfect romantic beach side dinner. We enjoyed a delicious bottle of wine, lobster and filet mignon. Our desert platter was personalized for our anniversary. With the waves crashing in the background, the amazing dinner and lighting, we could have not asked for a better night. Following dinner, we proceed to the lounge to enjoy an hour of live music and piano bar. I always love the addition of live music to any experience as it lifts the ambience to a new level.
The pool area is full service for food and beverage plus a beautiful view of the beach. We loved our mojito making class by the hotel’s mixologist by the pool then of course he let us each have our own to sip by the pool. There is full programming throughout the resort daily. The Ritz Carlton also offers a full kids program daily that includes interactive activities such as cooking classes and crafts. This program is an additional fee, but is worth it if you are looking for some adult time while on vacation.
There are plenty of other hotel features such as an on site spa to suit any of your relaxation or pampering needs plus a gym for those who want to stay fit while drinking your margaritas.
